Today I have a bonus post, to celebrate exactly 2 years of blogging. I would like to share with you my motivations that got me started on this blogging journey, and why you should start yours (if you haven’t already!).
April 23rd, 2017
Hello World!
I started my blog a few months after reading the Girl Online series and only a second after watching Zoella’s YouTube channel. I have always loved Zoe Sugg (or at least what she puts on the internet) and her blog inspired me to create my own! At the start of April 2017, I was reading blogs and getting ideas of what mine could be about. In the beginning it was all a mess of ‘wannabe lifestyle’ and weird extracts of unfinished novels. 2017 was the year of experiments and I luckily got the chance to collaborate with a range of bloggers, including Lorelei Joy’s magazine.
Why You Should Start A Blog
- To showcase your talent! Any hobby can be channelled through blogging. Whether that be DIY, gymnastics or YouTube. You will find that a blog can boost your internet career.
- It’s free! Your blog can be free unless you want to start a business. However, if you start blogging with WordPress, a business account can be quite inexpensive (compared to self-hosted blogs).
- It’s better to be blogging than mindlessly scrolling. When I write a blog post, I feel productive!
- Find internet friends. I have an internet friend, and, though our friendship didn’t start through blogging, it helped us find each other on Instagram and Snapchat. Now we can communicate daily, and fast, rather than through email!
- It pushes your mental strengths to the limits. It takes a lot to schedule and write posts for your audience every day, week or month. 2018 was a bit hit or miss with content. I’d have a block of motivation, then a block of demotivation. This is why scheduling helps a lot! You can spread out your ‘motivated’ content so that when it comes to that time when you don’t feel motivated, you are still putting out content for your viewers.
Things To Consider
Blogging isn’t just writing a post and publishing it:
1. Expect a couple of sleepless nights when you are full of motivation and need to write it down.
2. Also, be aware that people are going to find out. People that you know, people from school are going to find out about your blog. You may think: cool, I’ll get more readers, but that isn’t how it works. People are going to judge you, make mean comments and you have got to be prepared for it! Usually they do this because they are jealous. Don’t let it drag you down.
3. It takes a lot of time to perfect you web-design, write posts, schedule into the future and respond to other blogs. Be ready to give up your free time to work at your blog. In a future post maybe I’ll speak about my blogging routine, but make sure you create some time every day (or a block of time once a week) for you blog. Otherwise you will not grow, and that would be a shame ๐
4. You will not be certain of your audience straight away. Mess around with genres of writing and themes of posts. Soon you will find something you enjoy blogging about. Grow your audience from what you like writing, rather than writing what your audience wants! (it sounds quite controversial, but I hope you understand what I mean).
5. Don’t feel forced to break an anonymity barrier or to show your face. I like being anonymous. You know my name but I think I’ll leave it there! ๐ (my inner introvert is speaking)
Thanks for reading! This post may not be enough to get you to start blogging, but hopefully it will inspire you.
Did you enjoy this bonus post?
Sorry I’m a little late but Wooohoooo, Happy Bloggiversary!
I think you’ve shared some great benefits to blogging & I love your tips. I’d agree to write what you want rather than focusing on what your audience wants because you’ll be more authentic & genuine that way and actually enjoy the process of blogging more. And of course to not feel pressured, whether that’s in terms of content or showing your face, because it’s totally cool to be anonymous if you want to. Great post. Here’s to more happy blogging! ๐

Thank you very much! May I ask how long you have been blogging?
Iโm glad you think my tips help. The posts we often see about โHow To Start A Blogโ seem to be all about promoting, and not producing. Anonymity helps me have that barrier between real life and virtual life, which is good.
Happy Blogging Caz! x

Mmm I’m not sure how long I’ve been blogging actually! I guess maybe 2 years? I don’t think I really want to know because I’ll try to measure what I’ve done in that time and inevitably feel disappointed, so I’m avoiding all stats & dates. Crazy, right? I get that anonymity issue; that’s how I started, but because of what I wanted to do with my writing & raising awareness I felt I needed to put myself out there a little, which was also part of helping me come to terms with my stoma & be more accepting of it, so it helped me by doing it. That said, I don’t share my blog with many people I know in the real world, so I do keep a degree of privacy. Whatever works for each of us, and I don’t think there are any ‘rules’ with blogging or ways to get it ‘right’, it’s totally up to us as individuals & that’s the best part! ๐
